Social deduction and party games

I've been looking for a way to quickly sort through social deduction games and party games, and I couldn't find anything that did what I wanted. So I put this table together to track everything. I'm including a bunch of options (including many I've played and enjoyed). I'm also including popular games I've heard recommended by others that I haven't yet tried myself. Because I'm sharing this publicly, I also wanted to mention which of these I'd recommend to other people.

How this list was built

I started this list with just my favorites, social deduction and party games that I've run in the past and worked well. Then, I started tracking what everyone else was mentioning when I asked about it. The list has expanded to dozens of games, and I'll keep updating it as I find more solid options.

I'm including player counts and runtime from the game publishers. For the games that are in the public domain and don't have a single publisher, I'm using the best references I have available. Note that, at least for now, nothing here uses an affiliate link. I'm not being paid for any of these recommendations. I just like the games.

The front and back of the game, Arsenic and Lies.
This is one of the more popular options around our house. We've played it several times.

I'm recommending a few specific social deduction games from my full reference list. I've played each of them myself, and I'm only tagging 'recommended' for those where I have real experience and would actually give to you if you asked for my experience.

When I play a social deduction game, I'm looking for how much fun it is to play with my friends. That includes how easy it is to set up, how engaged the players are in the story, and whether I'd play it again regularly. I only recommend those I have enjoyed playing enough to buy the game or to run it again at almost any game night.

And the full list here includes the most popular social deduction games I've encountered. Note that some of these games I own, but I wouldn't recommend widely. The games I don't personally tag as recommended may be exactly the right game for some groups. They're just not my absolute favorites.

Games for classrooms and family game night

There's a filter on this table, so you can quickly find the best options for your table. You can filter down to just those I'd recommend, or you can use the filters to find the best social deduction games for kids, the best free social deduction games, or even the best social deduction games for the classroom.

Some social deduction games work really well in a classroom environment. I remember looking forward to Seven Up when I was in school. Looking back, that was a really unusual way to spend time at our desks. We really got into it every time. I've included several kid-friendly games and classroom-friendly games on this list.

What we make at Autumnal Games

Autumnal Games makes games that give people an unusual experience. Sometimes that means a party game with a memorable theme. Sometimes that means a mystery game that lets players embody unusual characters. I've included a few of our games here on the list, where they're relevant.
